We could install skype just downloading it from  skype.org, ubuntu will manage the installation for us, but in this case will not manage the updates. There is many ways to install programs on Ubuntu, the easiest way is using repositories. But not all the repositories come with the original Ubuntu install.

Installing new repositories is easy, and it give us access to new programs. It will be usefull for all Ubuntu versions.

Following the previous posts :

Ubuntu 9.10 for everyone

Ubuntu 9.10 update it the easy way.

This time we will install a codec package. Codecs are some descriptions that represent the possible encodings which lets the video player reproduce many tipes of files. (. Avi,. Mpg, …).

That does not bother at all and will be required to view some video and listen to some songs, so we will install and forget about it.

Today we have to continue with the sysadmin tasks and I’ll specifically talk about how to configure and use trac through mod_wsgi Apache2 module instead mod_python.

For install the Apache2 module mod_wsgi you must have in your server this, my server is a Debian5:

  • apache2
  • trac
  • python (obviusly), recommended 2.5

And depending of your databases type mysql or the corresponding.

We follow this steps:

  • Installation of WSGI
  • Configuring Trac Apache (Virtual Host) File
  • Configuring WSGI Files for each Trac
  • Restart Apache
  • Test

Continuing with the sysadmin tasks, now i will tell you about one of my latest experiences, migrate a running ISPconfig from one server to another one.

First, we must clear some restrictions:

  • The old and new version of ISPconfig is strongly recommended that they be the same
  • It is recommended that both servers have the same type of Linux distribution
  • Don’t interrupt the old server service or the acces to it
  • We need ssh access to both servers

Today (October 29th) a new linux distribution will be available for everybody. This Operative system is mean to be easy to install, configure and manage.

We know that there is so much people willing to use linux but without enough confidence to get it installed successfully, others think that some IT knowledge is requiered to install a linux distribution. Most of my friends can be placed in one of the mentioned groups, so the bluepastic people let’s me use their space to ‘publicar’ my friend-oriented manuals, so everyone interested can use them. Hope this will not be my last colaboration in this blog. :)

Yes, i returns to my initial stage on the blog, the sysadmin facet. This twice, i have to install MoinMoin Wiki in one dedicated server.

MoinMoin is a Wiki programmed on Python (Python rules!!!).

The work seemed very easy, but it was being complicated when beginning to confront the software limitations of the server, very funny!

pues nada… ya hay una versión “publicada” de google chrome para mac y para linux… puede ser interesante, la gran lástima es que tanto que se lo han currado para windows en mac y en linux esperan que la gente acabe de descubrir los bugs y los fallos más importante… a la par que el gran inconveniente con el que se van a encontrar los usuarios de chrome para linux y mac es que de momento no hay plugin de flash… gran putada… bueno para los interesados os dejo los links.
